Dental Bonding

Dental bonding, also known as composite bonding or cosmetic bonding, is a minimally invasive cosmetic dental procedure.

It uses composite resin and bonds it to the surface of the tooth in order to correct minor cosmetic imperfections such as chips, cracks, and stains. In as little as one appointment, you can easily makeover your entire smile with dental bonding.

Did you know?

The composite resin used for dental bonding is the same dental material used for composite fillings. Composite resin is an ideal dental material because it adheres directly to the enamel and can be matched to the exact color of your tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for dental bonding?

You may be a candidate for dental bonding if you have minor superficial imperfections on one or more keys. Dental bonding is especially effective in repairing small chips and cracks in the tooth. However, dental bonding only works on minor imperfections and cannot be used to correct severe tooth damage. To determine if you are an ideal candidate for dental bonding, schedule a consultation with Dr. Sanket Upadhyay at Birch Point Dental clinic today.

What can I expect when having dental bonding performed at Birch Point Dental Clinic?

When having dental bonding performed at Birch Point Dental Clinic, you can expect Dr. Sanket Upadhyay to examine your teeth and ask you about your cosmetic goals. In some cases, your teeth may need to be prepared by reshaping the existing structure, however composite resin can bond directly to the enamel and generally does not require extensive tooth modification. This also means that the use of dental anesthetics are often not needed during dental bonding procedures. Most dental bonding procedures are as easy as having softened composite resin placed on the tooth surface, then shaping and hardening the composite resin. The entire procedure can be completed in one appointment.

What can I expect after having dental bonding performed?

After having dental bonding performed, you can immediately return to your normal routine. Since the composite resin is hardened during the procedure, it can immediately withstand the forces of chewing and biting. However, it is recommended to avoid eating or drinking anything highly pigmented for the first 48 hours to prevent the composite resin from staining.

Since composite resin can stain over time, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene habits such as brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting Dr. Sanket Upadhyay every six months for a dental exam and cleaning. To prevent the composite resin from being damaged, it is also recommended to avoid chewing on excessively hard foods, using your teeth as tools, and biting your nails. When properly cared for, the results of dental bonding can last about 5-7 years, sometimes longer.
