Have you ever been told things about your teeth that have made you wonder if they were true? There are a lot of myths out there when it comes to teeth. Well, wonder no more! In this blog post, we will be identifying and debunking seven myths about teeth to give you the truth.

Myth #01: White Teeth Are Healthy Teeth

One of the biggest myths about teeth is that white teeth are automatically healthy teeth. This simply isn’t true! While it is true that teeth that are stained or yellowed may indicate that a person hasn’t been taking care of their oral hygiene, there are other factors that can cause teeth to become discolored. For example, certain medications or illnesses can affect the color of your teeth.

Myth #02: Sugar Rots Teeth

Another popular myth about teeth is that sugar rots teeth. While it is true that sugar can cause cavities, it is not the only factor. Cavities are actually caused by a build-up of plaque on your teeth. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that forms on your teeth and gums. When plaque isn’t removed, it can harden and turn into tartar. Tartar is much more difficult to remove than plaque and can cause cavities.

Myth #03: Baby Teeth Are Not Important

Many people believe that baby teeth are not important because they eventually fall out. However, this is not true! Baby teeth are actually very important for a number of reasons. First of all, they help children chew and speak properly. They also protect the teeth that come in later. If a baby tooth falls out too early, it can cause the permanent teeth to come in crooked.

Myth #04: Teeth Deteriorate With Age

Another myth about teeth is that they deteriorate with age. While it is true that teeth can become weaker with age, this isn’t always the case. If you take care of your teeth and see a dentist regularly, your teeth can stay healthy and strong well into old age.

Myth #05: Teeth Whitening Can Hurt Your Teeth

Many people believe that teeth whitening can hurt your teeth. This is not true! Teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten your smile. In fact, it is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed today.

Myth #06: Teeth Are Bones

Many people believe that teeth are bones. However, this is not true! Teeth are actually made of a number of different materials, including enamel, dentin, and pulp. Enamel is the hard outer layer that protects the tooth. Dentin is a softer material that makes up the majority of the tooth. Pulp is the innermost layer of the tooth and contains blood vessels and nerves.

Myth #07: Tooth Sensitivity Is Only Caused by a Loss of Tooth Enamel

Many people believe that tooth sensitivity is only caused by a loss of tooth enamel. However, this is not true! There are a number of different factors that can cause tooth sensitivity, including gum recession, worn fillings, and cracked teeth. If you are experiencing tooth sensitivity, it is important to see a dentist right away.
